It is possible to get there and back in a 24 hour period. The only day that it 'works' with easy jet is Thursday with 7am departure and 10pm return.
The 'season' starts next week and it was like watching the preparations for the biggest party ever, everything is being swept, cleaned and painted and the sense of anticipation is palpable. I didn't realise how many places just shut down outside of the main season. The shopping was pretty good with new season arriving soon, the shops that were open we're offering everything at knock down prices to make room. Marionette is a beautiful interiors shop with a number of outlets in the centre of the town, and even they have a total clear out with everything at up to 70% off.
I had lunch at Senequier in the port, I had always dismissed it as an expensive tourist trap, but interestingly it was the only restaurant full of Tropeziens in their lunch hour.
I loved the tiny house that I had come to see, but it needs a lot of work....
Wow I can't believe Senequier is open at this time! Quite cool. I hope the viewing went well - have you made any decisions? Perhaps you can negotiate a hard bargain and keep dropping Francois Hollande while discussing the price? :)
ReplyDeletei'm low balling i'm afraid, i feel horrible doing it, but just not prepared to take a big risk!
DeleteThis why I wish I lived in London, when we lived there we used to do daft things like go to Rome for lunch and be tucked up in our bed by mid night. It would be lovely to have bolt hole there, we ( my family) used to have a house in Cannes, the south of France and LA are the only places I want to go to now, I am so over travelling.
ReplyDeleteRome for lunch is very romantic, it's only daunting when you don't really know what you're doing, it's like anything once done the first time, it is easy.
DeleteThat is a quick trip isn't it! Its a bit like that here. I live in a holiday area and it is gearing up for Easter when the visitors arrive and out little quiet towns become full of people in brightly coloured holiday clothes again and no room to move on the roads, footpaths or beaches. Each year I forget about it and am surprised all over again by just how busy it does become. Still, its good for the local economy.
ReplyDeletei quite like hustle and bustle, even in rural areas, i remember how we used to walk or drive for miles looking for empty beaches and now i enjoy the people watching and chance to chat of being cheek by jowl with loads of people
DeleteI've often read articles on doing Paris in a day, always Eurostar but by plane to St Trop sounds amazing. I know you went to view the house but it would be great as Tabitha says to go for lunch as it's somewhere I've always wanted to go. I hope you buy it, meantime I'm checking flight prices, is it far from the airport? x
ReplyDeleteyes the distance from Nice is a pain, better to go to Toulon, but a day trip to Nice would be pretty cool!
DeleteYour occasional posts renewed my interest in the south of france. It has been forever for me. Love pink, but as my skin tone is so very, very pink, it is the worst color for me! Previous post on the Thermic Plan, and yo yo dieting floored me, as I have been a fluctuater all of my life. Looking forward to hearing anything else on the topic.
ReplyDeletei would think it is very you, but may be more the Cap Ferret side than St Tropez, in truth it is too hectic and busy in the main season
DeleteWow! Never thought of doing South of France in 1 day. I must have missed some posts as you were last "contemplating" buying a bolt-hole. I take it decision has been made now ;-) How exciting!
ReplyDeletethe offer was rejected so just playing the waiting game!
DeleteHow lovely to have a tiny place in such a charming spot! I could go to Buffalo or Detroit for the day but somehow it's not the same!!
ReplyDeletetee hee, it doesn't sound massively romantic, but i guess it depends who you are with....
