Is it wrong.....not to love Chanel?

Mum's been having a clear out, I have inherited the beige lace skirt, that matches my Uniglo cheap-y jumper and Sergio Rossi (not so cheap-y) boots.

I topped off with my J Crew necklace (from the new Brompton Cross store and a rather odd cross-eyed facial expression.

Then I added what should have been the piece de resistance.........................
And immediately reverted to my mum c. 1985..................
Complete with hair that miraculously sprang into a shampoo and set...........
And the body language of my old head mistress......................
Mum had generously handed over her prized Chanel (her shoulders no longer comfortably take the weight)...................
But it just doesn't work for me, in any way at all.......

Are you a sucker for a bit of quilted leather or are their other brands that you feel you 'should' love, but that just don't work their magic on you?

  1. I adore Chanel bags (I have a similar jumbo in black and a WOC) but now that I've scratched that itch, have no need for anymore bags of any type. I tend to pair mine with tees and jeans for that Kirsten Dunst vibe that to me feels modern. Try it with some rocker chic clothes before storing or giving away! (Or you can send it to oakville for safekeeping!!)

    Love that skirt! Pretty!

  2. I've got two of those bags and have used them about 4 times. I have vowed to carry them more this year, just to get wear out of them, but along with Hermes scarves ( all mum's too ) they make me feel instantly middle aged. I think that lot for me falls into the 60 plus years.

    1. back in the 90s there was a huge hermes scarf phase, it was a bit of a reaction to grunge, people wore them as tops and belts, i was given two, but it was my 'big' time so wearing as a top was never going to happen, you have just reminded me, I might seek them out and try the belt thing again.

  3. As you probably know, it truly is my dream bag and I think it looks amazing on you. What a stylish mummy you must have and as for that J Crew necklace, wow, I'd love one but they are so expensive x

    1. and not worth it really, i was invited to the opening week, and stupidly felt 'obliged' to get something as everyone was allocated a 'sales person', it was the cheapest thing I could find. next time i will say no to all those 'boutique' opening invites.

  4. I think it could be the color that feel matronly. I like them in black, but alas, my shoulders don't like the weight either. I'm a satchel, handbag gal now!! You do look stunning:)

    1. yes the colour is quite 90s which i think is when this bag hailed from, but it isn't very practical, it's big and heavy but you can't put a lap top in it, kind of the opposite to a Neverfull.

  5. I like them but people seem very tribal when it comes to bags. It may be having grown up in Asia but it isn't mumsy to me at all as teenagers wear it there but I think it looks nice on you!

    1. i grew up in the one time that Chanel really went out of fashion and the only people still wearing it were maiden aunts, so I guess i associate it with that.

  6. oh I love it but then I am a Chanel lover, I think it looks lovely with that outfit loving the skirt and necklace. Try it with your camel coat and jeans for a more casual young look and it may work better. x

  9. That outfit is sensational on you ... but I agree with you on the bag. It suddenly became a bit too 'matchy matchy' and matronly. However ... I think that bag would be completely fab with a much more casual outfit - jeans, flats and a tee shirt. Nobody could accuse you of looking mumsy in that. And in fairness .. it's Chanel. OMG!!!!

  10. I virtually have that bag but the hardward is an aged pewter - as above - its the pairing and more casual will really work - although i have to say i like the outfit - i love a chanel bag but i always buy an aged silver/pewter hardware although i loved an aged gold one recently in black with a burgundy red interior - the price kind of scared me - they go up and up and up and the vintage ones are even more - so at the very least you have one hell of an investment there!

  11. I actually love it and think your outfit is perfect, especially that skirt! I understand that most people don't however and I have been put off the classic chanel in recent years due to the type of girl who now carries it. I do still love the Chanel Boy however its just too cool int he fur and black but have seen myself move onto and be most attracted to Saint Laurent bags and new style prada and celine trio and box etc to step away from that almost tacky over done glam look that I hate! Thus, I totally understand how you feel even though I still love a chanel bag.

    Have a lovely week,
